FRENCH MARKET BARTENDER AND WAITERS RACE
It’s the fastest, funniest, Frenchiest foot race you’ll ever see! Based on the Parisian tradition, this now worldwide sensation of waiters speedwalking while balancing drinks and food on waiters trays has returned to the French Quarter in what is now the 5th annual race at the French Market! The race is Sunday July 12th at 4 p.m. with entertainment starting at 2 p.m. at the Farmers Market stage, and live music and awards ceremony near the finish line at St. Phillip and Decatur Street (Dutch Alley Performance Pavilion).
Route is a 4 block speedwalking race down Decatur Street riverside, from Washington Artillery Park (across from Jackson Square) to St. Phillip Street (Joan of Arc statue). Racers will race in heats of 10 at a time, for 3 races, then a fourth and final race.30 bartenders and waiters will compete on a first come, first served registration basis. LIMIT TWO WORKERS PER ESTABLISHMENT, PLEASE.Prizes include gift certificates to local restaurants, items from the Tales of the Cocktail festival, French Market retail gifts, and much more!

ROUTE: Down Decatur Street from Jackson Square to the Joan of Arc statue (3 block race, riverside)

2:00 p.m. Gypsy Swing master guitarist Raphael Bas and saxophonist Pascal Valcasara
3:00 p.m. A Taste of the Opera for Bastille Day!
3:45 p.m. SECONDLINE KICKS OFF THE RACE: Walk 3 blocks from the pavilion to the starting line to Washington Artillery Park. This secondline clears the way, builds up the crowd, gets our racers’ energy high, and alerts people that the RACE IS ABOUT TO BEGIN!
4:00 p.m. THE RACE! The route will take place down Decatur Street, riverside, from St. Ann to St. Philip Street (approx. 3 blocks). Contestants will end at St. Phillip across from Joan of Arc statue and go into Dutch Alley to place their trays for the judges.
4:30 p.m. Awards Ceremony

Plus trophies for each winner and gift certificates from local establishments, French organizations, and other goodies.
Free to enter! Must be currently employed as a waiter or bartender in New Orleans to register. Limit two workers per establishment.
